1976 Staff Photo

It was a beautiful spring day in 1976 for the annual taking of the staff photo:

With the warm weather (compared to the 1975 photo, at least) the infamous trillium dresses could be seen in all their polyester singleknit glory. This also marks Burke's first staff photo as site manager.
Thanks to the 2013 reunion, a number of faces are familiar, even to this 1980s alumnus! Are you in this pic, or people you know? Let us know in the comments!

Summer Staff 1975

It looks like the day chosen for the staff photo in the spring of 1975 was one of those chilly days we would sometimes get during staff training, with the sailors in their pea jackets and the tour guides wrapped up in their trench coats.

In the front row, along with the typically scruffy archaeological crew, is the first summer staff photographer, Mark Harrison, the one wearing a tie.

Christmas Open Houses

Did you ever have a chance to volunteer for a day at one of the Christmas Open Houses at HNME? Timing could be tricky, between exams and getting home for Christmas, but for many, it was a chance to get together again with friends from the summer, dress up in costume and recreate a nineteenth century Christmas atmosphere for visitors to the site.

Since the open houses took place before camera phones were ubiquitous, we haven't seen a lot of photos from these events. Maybe you have one to share? Post it here in the comments, on Facebook, or email it to hnme2013@gmail.com so it can be shared with everyone!

The Summer of '74

Here is the staff photo from the summer of 1974... a mix of new and returning summer staff, who had experienced an entire season of historical interpretation - and filling time on slow days - already. Among the scruffy archaeological crew that year was one Burke Penny, who would go on to be an HNME and HHP manager and stay with the organization for seventeen years. Can you pick him out of the crowd? What other faces do you recognize from these early Establishments days? Let us know in the comments below!

Time to Start Planning!

Let's get this party started!

Here in the wilds of Upper Canada, the snow is starting to melt, the days are getting longer... and that means July, and the 2018 HNME Summer Staff Reunion, will be here before you know it! Your reunion committee has already begun planning, with the (currently dockside) Georgian Queen once again booked for a Saturday evening of fun, food and lots of reminiscing.
To start off this reunion blog once again, here's the staff photo from 1973 — Year One! We'll try to post one each week between now and the reunion on July 21st. Our collection runs until 1987, so if you have a copy of staff photos from 1988, '89, '90 and/or '91, please scan it/them and email to us at hnme2013@gmail.com. Thanks!
