Tickets Now Available!

Tickets are now available for the 2018 HNME Reunion Party on Saturday, July 21st. Location: the venerable Georgian Queen, located at the Penetanguishene Town Dock. Time: 6:30 pm – 10:30 pm (and possibly later if Captain Steve says we’ve been good!).
Ticket price is $35 per person and includes access to the boat and dinner around 7:30 (BBQ chicken, salads, fruit dessert; Indonesian tofu stir-fry is an option instead of chicken if you let us know beforehand).

Ticket purchase can be made by electronic money transfer or cheque. See your email from the reunion committee for details. If you haven’t received the email, check your spam filter first and if it’s not there email us at hmne2013@gmail.com. LAST DATE FOR BUYING TICKETS IS FRIDAY, JULY 13.
The evening will include...
  • Cash bar
  • Music (favourites from the 70s and 80s – you can bring your own CD mix if you really want to dance!)
  • Entertainment (Frank Milligan and Katherine McCracken have been arranging something you won’t want to miss!)
  • Memorial corner (display table where we, and hopefully you, can share visual memories of HNMEers who are no longer with us.)

Local taxi companies will be alerted to possible extra volume of requests after 10:30.

Other Reunion Information:
For those from outside the area who wish to stay over on Friday/Saturday night, here are a few suggestions for accommodation: Comfort Inn; Quality Inn; Super 8 Motel; Midland Inn and Suites. There are also lots of B&Bs in the area. If you would like advice, consider checking with our local travel agent (and former HNME summer staffer) Terri Brophy (info@terristravel.com).
Some people are already talking about getting together on Friday evening. Here are a couple of ideas:
  • Midland waterfront will be very active with the Feast Fest event (Friday and Saturday). Lots of food vendors, a licenced area, entertainment, etc.
  • Boathouse Eatery at the town dock usually has a band, but may be very busy because of Feast Fest.
  • Feel free to use the Reunion Facebook page as a means to contact others to arrange impromptu get-togethers.
  • King’s Wharf Theatre (our beloved former Naval Storehouse) has a production on until July 21st – “Out of Order”. More info at https://www.draytonentertainment.com/kings-wharf-theatre

Other Saturday Ideas:
  • Some people are talking about a biking excursion Saturday morning to take advantage of the great trails network we have in the area. The trails are great for walking too. Again, if you want to expand this into something more inclusive, we suggest you use the Reunion Facebook page as a method of contacting like-minded people.
  • An alumni site tour is being planned; probably starting about 2-2:30. Watch for more info on this and other reunion details on the Facebook page (HNME Reunion 2018) and the reunion website/blog.

Sunday:
  • If you still need a bit more HNME reminiscing in your system, arrangements have been made for breakfast to be available from 10 a.m. at the Captain Roberts’ Table Restaurant (right next to the site entrance). It will be personal order-off-the-menu service, no reservation required.

More later! Hope to see lots of you on our HNME Reunion weekend. And if you can’t make the Saturday evening party, why don’t you just come up Friday or Saturday during the day, you can be sure there will be lots of HNMEers around!

Summer Staff, 1985

1985 was the first staff photo that were taken on (and in front of) the Bee

Nice to see everyone back in costume again after a couple of years of street clothes!

1984...

It may sound ominous, but the year 1984 was good for these summer staff members who were fortunate enough to have a job on the shores of beautiful Penetang Bay. ;)

Looks like another cool-weather day was chosen for this photo outside of the Visitor Centre, but I'm sure there were suntans (and burns) soon enough.

1983 Summer Staff

The summer staff of 1983... and the first staff photo where I recognize everyone! :D Even the soccer ball standing in for Paul Mount that day.

It must have been a cool May day outside, since the majority of the staff are wearing sweaters. This marks Bill Brodeur's first summer and Interpretive and Education Officer.

The Staff of 1982

The 1982 summer staff had their photos taken on the spiffy new Ship's Display in the brand new Visitor Centre!

1982 also marked the first official reunion for HNME summer staff. This was repeated in 1987 — and then it took until 2013 to bring so many of us together again! We hope lots of you are planning to come to this summer's reunion.

Summer Drama

... but not the romantic kind. 😉
In addition to daily dramas in Roberts House, Quarterman's and the dockyard, plays were also performed upstairs in the storehouse in the late 70s and early 80s. Here are a couple of pictures from Andrew Wilson of one of them:
