July 27, 2013 -- Save the Date!

Hope you've already marked July 27th on your calendar -- that's the big day for our reunion in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Historic Naval and Military Establishments. The main event being organized by the reunion committee is an evening boat cruise on the venerable Georgian Queen. We're hoping that tickets will be in the $25-$30 range (depending on total numbers attending). Price includes a buffet dinner. During the day, you may choose to tour the site and see what's changed (and what's still the same), take in a matinee at the King's Wharf Theatre, or arrange to get together with other summer staff from your era. Our reunion isn't an official Discovery Harbour event; so remember if you have any questions, photos to share, or just want to give a shout-out to other alumni, you can always use the comment link below any blog post or email the reunion committee directly at hnme2013@gmail.com. To make sure you don't miss any updates, put your email address in the handy little box over on the right to receive a notice whenever this blog is updated.
One alumnus who will be familiar to many, Peter Mount (aka Puppy Chow!), has offered to host a barbecue the evening of Friday, July 26th for those who are planning to make a weekend of it. (Eighties staff may have memories -- possibly foggy ones! -- of the M&M barbecues held before summer staff boat cruises.)
Now here's a true blast from the past, thanks to Geraldine (St. Amant) Brewer: the staff photo of the first HNMEers, back in 1973!

It's WHO You Know!

The reunion committee has had a lot of enthusiastic feedback from the Establishments alumni we've been able to contact so far. Unfortunately, finding people is the tough part of the job! So, if you are still in touch with any former HNME summer staff, please pass along the message. Whether you forward the email announcement or point them to this blog, we want to get out the information to as many former staff as possible. Just to remind you, the reunion's big event will be a cruise on the Georgian Queen on the evening of July 27th. The day can be spent catching up with old friends or touring the site.
Are you still trying to decide if you want to come to Penetang this July? Perhaps these photos from 1970s summer interpreter Rob Berdan will help persuade you. Remind you of some good times?

Calling All HNME Alumni!

The wind has come from Manitoulin...

... maybe a day just like today.

Do either of these phrases strike a chord with you? Make you think of sunshine and a warm breeze along the shores of Penetang Bay? Or perhaps one of these photographs jogs a few memories.
